Until not too long a go, I was a fingers to face girl. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that- but it was only after the initial Real Techniques launch that I genuinely realised the power of a make up brush (which sounds far deeper than intended, but y’know). After finally graduating from dabbling the brushes like a primary school child on sugar paper to actually applying something onto my face (streak free, too)- I thought I’d share the collection of brushes I’m currently adopting in order to create something vaguely wearable using my favourite products…
Sigma Firm Shader E57: This little brush is the eye brush of dreams. Although it’s tightly packed, dense and quite small- it’s the perfect precision brush for shading (and a bit of blending) and I find it far easier to use than more fluffy eye brushes, making it a pretty perfect all rounder.
Chanel Number 6 Foundation: There are two foundation brushes I absolutely can’t get enough of, and this Chanel bad boy is one of them. It’s an amazing brush for applying onto all the contours and small corners of the face (including around the eyes) and gives a perfect, even foundation application every time.
Bare Minerals Smoothing Face Brush: If I’m totally honest, initially I was a little intimated by this brush. It’s a lot fluffier and more dome-like than other foundation brushes I’ve used, but it turns out- if anything, it really makes a little product go a long way. I’m able to use less product (nearly half what I use with other ones) and also enable pretty flawless coverage too- A*!
Rodial Scultping Brush: How anyone can contour without this brush amazes me (and how anyone can contour too, but that’s a different matter)! It’s the perfect angled brush for subtle, buildable contouring (even if you’re total novice like me) and blends everything perfectly for a really natural look.
Sigma Flat Kabuki: Hi, I’m Liv. I’m the girl that uses a kabuki brush for blush. I’ve genuinely found use in a kabuki brush as a blush brush- and I’ll tell you what, it does a neat old job. Although it’s certainly made for gentle application and more pressed powders, with a gently pigmented blush this works a treat. I know it’s for foundation (and I’m certain that’s where it’s talents lie)- but the fact it’s certainly multifunctional has me at hello.
Zoeva Luxe Sheer Cheek Brush: Another cheek number (this time actually for the cheeks) and this perfect blush-cum-highlight brush is the ultimate fluffy do-all brush. It’s slightly angled which makes application really easy, and creating gentle contours simple.
